Springfield Echelon Pro Comp: Specs, Price and Who It's For
The Springfield Echelon Pro Comp adds a compensated slide, flared magwell, tritium front sight and three extended magazines for $899 MSRP. Is it right for you?
By Firearms Almanac
Springfield Armory announced the Springfield Echelon Pro Comp on October 13, 2026. It's the existing Echelon 9mm with many popular upgrades already done at the factory. Below are the specs and price from Springfield's announcement, followed by a look at who this pistol is built for.
What is the Springfield Echelon Pro Comp?
The Echelon is Springfield's modular, fully ambidextrous 9mm. "Modular" means the part that's legally the gun (Springfield calls it the Central Operating Group, and it carries the serial number) can be moved into different grip modules, so you can change the size or color of the grip without buying a whole new pistol.
The Pro Comp keeps that design and adds, according to Springfield:
- An integrally compensated slide finished in Springfield Grey Cerakote. A compensator directs some of the gas from each shot upward to help keep the muzzle down; here it's built into the slide rather than bolted on.
- A LightForged frame with a laser-sculpted grip texture Springfield calls "Badlands," described as an aggressive "cracked-earth" pattern.
- A machined steel flared magwell (removable, so flush-fit magazines still work).
- A stainless steel guide rod.
- A tritium front sight with an orange luminescent ring.
- Three extended magazines in the box.
- Springfield's Variable Interface System, which lets popular red-dot optics mount directly to the slide.
What sizes does the Echelon Pro Comp come in?
- Echelon Pro 4.0C Comp (compact): comes with three 18-round extended magazines.
- Echelon Pro 4.0FC Comp (hybrid): a 4" barrel and compact slide on a full-size grip, with three 20-round extended magazines.
- Echelon Pro 4.5F Comp (full size): three 20-round extended magazines.
All three have an MSRP of $899. Store prices will vary, and our Springfield Armory deals page is here to help you compare them.
Who is the Echelon Pro Comp for?
This pistol is built with speed in mind. A compensated slide, a large flared magwell, extended magazines and a grip texture Springfield describes as "aggressive" all point to shooters who practice often, train hard and care about split times (the time between shots). If that describes you, getting the whole package from the factory at one price is convenient.
If you're buying your first handgun for home defense or carry, many of these features may be more than you need right now. A flared magwell and extended magazines make a pistol larger (though the magwell is removable), and a texture that grips your hand well can also rub against your shirt when you carry it all day. The regular Echelon is the same modular, ambidextrous pistol underneath, so it's a good place to start, and you can add upgrades later as you learn what you like. If you're comparing modular 9mm pistols, our note on the CZ DUTY covers another new option.
For a first handgun, these matter most:
- Fit. Rent or borrow one before you buy if you can. The best handgun is the one that fits your hand, and no texture fixes a grip that doesn't.
- Training and ammo. Regular practice will help you more than any single feature.
- "Optics-ready" doesn't include an optic. If you'd like a red dot, plan for it in your budget.
Springfield Echelon Pro Comp FAQ
- How much does the Echelon Pro Comp cost? All three sizes have an MSRP of $899. Store prices will vary.
- What sizes does it come in? Three: the 4.0C (compact), the 4.0FC (a 4" barrel and compact slide on a full-size grip) and the 4.5F (full size).
- How many magazines come with it? Three extended magazines: 18-round magazines with the 4.0C, and 20-round magazines with the 4.0FC and 4.5F.
- Can I still use flush-fit magazines? Yes. Springfield says the steel flared magwell is removable, so flush-fit magazines still work.
- Does it come with a red dot? No. It's optics-ready: Springfield's Variable Interface System lets popular red-dot optics mount directly to the slide, but the optic is sold separately.
- Is the Echelon Pro Comp a good first handgun? It can be, but many of its features are aimed at experienced shooters. Many first-time buyers will be well served by the standard Echelon, which is the same modular, ambidextrous pistol underneath.
The bottom line
The Echelon Pro Comp is the Echelon with speed-focused upgrades already installed, at one price across three sizes. It's a great fit if you'll use those features, and the standard Echelon is a fine choice if you won't.
