CZ DUTY: CZ Builds a Modular Striker-Fired 9mm (and the P-10 Stays in the Lineup)

CZ's new DUTY pistol is a modular, striker-fired 9mm in compact and full-size versions, with or without a manual safety, and direct-mount optics. All four launch models have a $729 MSRP.

By Firearms Almanac

CZ has launched the CZ DUTY, a brand-new striker-fired 9mm platform. CZ says it was developed "from the ground up," and it's quick to add that the DUTY does not replace the CZ P-10 family. So if you recently bought a P-10, it's still a current CZ model.

CZ's specs are spread across a press release and a product page, so we've gathered them in one place, along with what they mean if you're shopping for a defensive handgun.

The short version

  • Four 9mm models, all with an MSRP of $729, available in the U.S. beginning October 6, 2026, per CZ's announcement.
  • A serialized modular chassis: the serial-numbered part can move between compatible grip modules and configurations.
  • Direct-mount optics for several common red-dot footprints, no adapter plate needed.
  • Versions with or without an ambidextrous manual safety.

The four models

Each model name below links to its own deals page, matched by UPC, so you'll see retailer prices for that exact version as listings come in.

"MS" means manual safety, a lever you switch off before the gun will fire. Some shooters prefer one and others don't, and both are reasonable choices. Since CZ makes the same pistol both ways, you can choose whichever suits you.

Safety features

CZ lists three built-in safeties on every DUTY: a drop safety (blocks the firing pin if the pistol is dropped), a trigger safety (the trigger won't move unless its safety blade is pressed) and an out-of-battery safety (it won't fire if the slide isn't fully closed). CZ also says the pistol can be taken apart without pulling the trigger, which is a nice safety touch for beginners: you never have to press the trigger just to take the pistol apart for cleaning.

Red dots and sights

CZ's product page says these optic footprints mount straight to the slide using an included pin set: Trijicon RMR, Shield RMSc, Holosun K and Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. CZ's announcement adds that aftermarket adapter plates are available for other compatible optics. Check your exact optic before you buy anything.

The sights are a three-dot setup, luminescent or tritium, and CZ says they co-witness in the lower third of a red dot. That means you can still use the iron sights through the optic's window if the dot ever quits on you.

Durability claims

On its product page, CZ says it guarantees a 50,000-round service life (or 25,000 rounds of overpressure ammunition), including a 10,000-round period with no parts changes. CZ also says each pistol is function- and accuracy-tested at the factory and zeroed at 25 yards. These are CZ's claims; we're reporting them, not testing them. Few owners will ever shoot 50,000 rounds through one pistol, but it's a reassuring sign of how durable CZ designed it to be.

Magazines

CZ DUTY magazines come in 15- and 17-round capacities, with +2 extended base plates, and CZ lists 10-round options for places that limit magazine capacity. Retailers sell versions of each model packed with different magazines (including 10-round versions), and each model's deals page above links to them. It's a good idea to check your state and local laws before buying a pistol or magazines.

Who it's for

As the name suggests, CZ pitches the DUTY for personal defense, professional use and everyday carry, and the feature list backs that up: common optic footprints with no adapter plate, sights that co-witness with a red dot, multiple built-in safeties and an optional manual safety. It's designed as a practical working pistol.

For a first-time buyer, the compact 4.0C is the one to look at if carry is on your list. The full-size 4.0F has a longer grip and room for more rounds, which makes more sense for a home-defense or nightstand pistol. The main choice is grip size, so hold both if you can.

The modular chassis is a nice bonus: if your needs change, you can move the serialized part into a different compatible grip module instead of buying a whole new gun.

The bottom line

The CZ DUTY is a modular, optics-ready 9mm built for defensive use, offered with or without a manual safety, at one price across all four launch models. See the sources below for CZ's full announcement and specs, and check CZ deals for current prices.
