Buying a gun in Colorado: good to know

Waiting period
3 days for all firearm purchases (2023).
Handgun purchase permit
No general permit.
Shipping and online purchases
Magazines over 15 rounds can't be sold to CO buyers. Ammunition deliveries require age verification for buyers 21 and older (HB25-1133), so many sellers may require an adult signature or decline to ship. Semi-auto rifles and shotguns covered by SB25-003 still have to go through a CO dealer, who will ask for proof of the eligibility and training credential. Check city ordinances too (Denver, Boulder and others).

How an FFL transfer works

When you buy a gun online or from someone in another state, it ships to a local licensed dealer (an FFL) instead of your door. The dealer logs it in, you fill out ATF Form 4473 and pass the background check, and then you take it home. Dealers charge a transfer fee for this, often $20 to $75. Call first: ask whether they accept transfers from your seller, what the fee is, and whether they need the seller to email a copy of their license.
